The Castle Cellar Exhibition

In the Roman ages a watch post of the military-commercial road along the river Danube used to stand here, where the Mosonmagyaróvár Castle cellar and Castle lake exhibition, educational, recreational and tourism center can be found today. On the 25th October 1818 Prince Albert Casimir has established of his own wealth the predecessor in title of the faculty in Mosonmagyaróvár, the Magyaróvár Superior Private Institute for Economics. Since the 1st January 2000 the institute has been working as the Faculty for Agriculture and Food Science of the Western-Hungarian University. In 2004 the idea came to utilize the castle lake and the castle cellar system in the sense of tourism. In the renovated Castle cellar you can find vaulted rooms on 500 square meters, starting with a cupola hall ? its function is also a lobby with cloakroom, information desk, with anglers? and souvenir shop. From here you can get to the restaurant and cooking performance area. The kitchen is divided only by a low glass wall from the costumers? area, so the guests can watch how the dishes ? specialties from the region Szigetköz ? are prepared and served. In the restaurant 40 costumers can be seated, reservation is required. Through a passage the exhibition room can be reached, where you can see tools, documents, and photos of old professions in the region like gold washing or fishing. In the Hansági Museum as a parallel exhibition the objects of folk costume and folk culture are displayed. In the next room you can visit the fauna of the waters in the region Szigetköz. The aquarium room in the castle cellar is a spectacle for not only the experts but also for the admirers of the colorful natural water world. Several plants of Szigetköz are in the castle garden between the castle lake and castle cellar, and so it has a character of a conservation exhibition.
